Max B Sentenced To 75 Years In Prison

Harlem, New York rapper Max B. was sentenced to 75 years in prison today (September 3) for his role in a botched robbery that led to a double murder in a Fort Lee, New Jersey hotel.

Max B., born Charly Wingate, appeared in a Hackensack, New Jersey court today with co-defendant Kevin Leerdam.

Max B. and Leerdam were convicted on charges of felony murder, kidnapping and armed robbery for planning and robbing Allan Plowden and David Taylor at a Holiday Inn in September of 2006.

Taylor was shot and killed during the robbery, which was planned with Max B.’s ex-girl friend Gina Conway, who testified against the pair during their June trial.

Max B. was not happy with the situation and fired his attorney Gerald Saluti, just before the 75-year sentenced was handed down.

Leerdam received a life sentence, plus 35 years for his role in the murder, while Conway is facing an 18-year sentence today.

Memphis Bleek Blames Timbaland & Camp For BP3 Leaks

“Man , you know where that's coming from. That's Timbo's camp. Somebody is playin' dirty. It's cool though. I like to see the people's opinions. I've been reading the comments on Jay's records saying that the beats don't sound like this or that. I think they just set the bar too high for my guy.”

As the tracks have all been catching flack from fans and been crucified by bloggers, Bleek states that Jay won't ever be the way he was when he first came back and has realized that his longtime friend will never take steps back to recreate the magic, but will only move forward and further his musical outreach.

“A couple of years back, I had asked Jay why he doesn't make another “Big Pimpin.” This was like four years ago when I asked him this and his answer to me was ‘Why would I do that?' “Big Pimpin” is already made. So then, I didn't understand what he meant by that and I'm like so what, I would just make six of those and ride it to the end of the wave. But he's right because if you make four more of those records, then the original won't be hot anymore. You have to move on to the next wave and I think that people want him to stay Reasonable Doubt, Volume 2, Blueprint Jay. He's not that guy anymore, he's outta here.”

Recently, Timbaland spoke on the production that he gave for the album and there are reports saying that he didn't even give Jay his best material. For an album of such volume, many would come to believe that Tim would bring his best, but he stated that he will save the best for his own album, Shock Value 2. Although early reports said that Jigga was set to be on the upcoming sequel, time will tell if this will still be.

It's disappointing that 1/3 of the album has already been released as 5 songs have come out from a 15 song track list. The worst part is the fact that the leak has not created further anticipation, but further disappointment. Let's hope that Kanye West and No I.D. have something in store for fans as 10 tracks remain unheard… for the time being.

Drake ft. Lil Wayne, Kanye West & Eminem – Forever

Drake ft. Lil Wayne, Kanye West & Eminem – Forever

Jay-Z Covers XXL (October ‘09)

HIS STANDING IN THE GAME:

“But when I say I’m the best, I don’t say that outta my ass. I say that with all my stats behind me. I put that against anybody. I mean anybody. I really believe that… I believe in a lot of things.
I believe that ‘SportsCenter’ is the best thing on TV. I shouldn’t have to prove it. But I do have these stats to prove it. I’m talking about real run. I’m not talking about years off. I’m talking about straight—boom, boom, boom—back to back. We’re not talking about heritage acts either. We’re not talking about respect what I’ve done. I’m talking No. 1 [albums] 10 times. The Beatles is the only one [to have more
No. 1 albums]. They got 19, and if I get a surge of creativity, I could make nine albums next year.”

CRITICISM OF “D.O.A.”:

“I’m not hating on young people. Like, when people say that, I’m like, What are you talking about? It’s just stupid. I’m not hating on young people… I’m not Bill Russell, [saying] Michael Jordan ain’t shit. I’m saying Lil Wayne and Kanye are like LeBron and Kobe. My job as someone at the forefront of the game is to leave it in a better position than when I came in. Same way that Russell [Simmons] left it to me. ’Cause this thing saved my life. Literally. So I have a responsibility to it karmically. And after that it’s on you. I did my part. I made ‘D.O.A.’ I said it. I made the statement. I made the push. Here, y’all take it from here.”

HIS LEGACY AS FORMER DEF JAM RECORDS PRESIDENT:

“So if you ask me to grade my performance as the president, I’d say A-plus. No one can bat a 100. It’s impossible. I mean, everyone is looking at my shit. But if we really looked under the hood [of] every single [record exec] and the acts they put out in that time, I’d be comparable to anyone.”

Rapper Beanie Sigel Charged With Marijuana Possession

Dwight Grant, 35, who is known as the rapper Beanie Sigel, was found in possession of under 50 grams of the drug during a 12:44 a.m. traffic stop at the intersection of Fort Dix and Main streets, said Sgt. Julian Castellanos, spokesman for the New Jersey State Police.

The driver, Karl S. Dargan, 24, of Philadelphia, and another passenger, Justin S. Gaines, 25, of Westville, Gloucester County, also were charged with marijuana possession of under 50 grams, Castellanos said.

Grant, Dargan and Gaines were not believed to be in jail, Castellanos said.

Grant rose to prominence as a rapper in the late 1990s after making guest appearances on albums put out by The Roots and rapper Jay-Z. His debut album, “The Truth,” was released by Roc-A-Fella Records in 2000. He has had several hit records since.

Grant also has a lengthy criminal history, including stints in prison for weapons possession and parole violations. He was acquitted of an attempted murder charge in 2005 that stemmed from a shooting in West Philadelphia, according to published reports.

On Sunday, Grant was on his way to perform at a private function at Kelly’s Bar on Rexall Avenue, according to a bar employee. The performance was canceled as a result of his arrest, the employee said.

The bar, which is owned by Borough Councilman Scott Timberman, was recently the subject of complaints from residents and businesses about juveniles leaving the tavern’s nonalcoholic Teen Night functions and shoplifting from stores or vandalizing property.

Also, in June 2008 a Burlington City man was shot in the lower back during an altercation with Safford Swain, 27, of Burlington Township. Swain pleaded guilty to gun possession and is serving five years in state prison, according to court records.

Mayor Tom Harper said state police have responded to complaints about downtown crime by assigning more troopers to patrols on evenings when Teen Night is held. Harper was unaware of Grant’s arrest Sunday morning.

Councilman Jim Severns called Grant’s arrest an embarrassment for the small borough and said it could hurt efforts to redevelop the downtown business district.

“We can’t afford bad publicity at this point,” Severns said.
