Timbaland Mad at Jay Over “Autotune Is Dead” Record?

Apparently Timbaland doesn’t appreciate Jay trying to kill his faux voice steez. Illseed caught a little word about the “drama” that’s unfolding concerning Jigga’s new track:

Jay-Z is supposedly giving the technology (autotune) its official eulogy with the song “Autotune is Dead.” Also, Kanye is supposedly finished with it and will rap again on the next one. I wonder what T-Pain has to say about this. From what I understand or have been told, the person who had the most problem and did the majority of the hating on the Autotune was Timbaland, who had reportedly been cutting records with Jay for a minute. Here’s the kicker that pissed Tim off… all his records with Jay had been autotuned to some extent or another. Apparently, the use of the tool was a bit too noticeable. I heard the song were all tracked in Los Angeles and then mixed in Hawaii, which makes sense. These recordings were supposedly done during Justin Timberlake and Leona Lewis sessions and this is why both Ye and Timb were both there. It looks like the Timbaland songs might be scrapped or redone. Timbaland has had serious crossover success, but his most recent work with the Pussycat Dolls and rocker Chris Cornell haven’t fared as well so this Jay-Z stuff is big for him.

Is Jay-Z Headed To A Lyor, Liles & Kyser Reunion At WMG?

Yesterday, Billboard reported Jay was close to a deal at Beyonce’s label, Epic Records.

Today, the NY Daily News claims Hov is headed to a Lyor/Liles/Kyser reunion at WMG.

Jay-Z may be a free agent for now, but he’s in talks to cut a deal with WMG/Atlantic that could make him one of the richest and most powerful men in music.

A well-placed industry source tells us that Jay - who recently left Def Jam as a recording artist (he served as its president from 2004-2007) - has been taking top-secret meetings with his old pals and former managers Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles. Topics of the hush-hush conversations have included giving Jay his own record label at WMG, tentatively to be called the Carter Music Group.

“Jay knows Lyor and Kevin from back when they all worked together at Def Jam, and he obviously wants to work something out with his friends,” says our insider. “He wants to get the dream team back together. There have been a few whiffs of a reunion in the past, but only now - and very privately - is something finally starting to happen.”

Our source adds, “This is big in hip hop. These are three of the most powerful men in music, who might be working together, and there’s no question the success they’ll have as a team will be huge.”

WMG Vice President Cohen and Executive Vice President Liles also attempted to convince Jay to bring his Roc Nation label - which is part of the reported $150 million deal he cut with Live Nation - to WMG. Jay, however, has chosen to release his much-anticipated 15th album, “The Blueprint 3,” with Live Nation in the fall.

“Jay’s deal with Live Nation is massive,” says another music-biz insider. “But if he were to cut a deal with WMG/Atlantic, he’d make even more headlines. Jay-Z, Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles are all brand names. They’re the industry’s heavy hitters, and the combination would bring them a lot of attention. They would be unstoppable. Jay himself is the most successful rapper-turned-businessman out there.”

Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) is a force to be reckoned with on his own. He reportedly bought himself out of his contractual obligations with Def Jam/Universal for a cool $5 million.

A rep at WMG would not comment; Jay-Z’s team didn’t return calls.

C-Murder Gets 10 Years For Attempted Murder

The decision was made Wednesday (May 27) afternoon.
Rapper C-Murder has pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted second-degree murder. In the plea agreement, C-Murder, whose real name is Corey Miller, will be sentenced by the judge to 10 years in prison. The formal sentencing will be August 25th. (WAFB News)
While the initial jury selection process began yesterday (May 26), jurors had not yet been chosen.
Jury selection finally got under way Tuesday in Miller's attempted murder trial, nearly eight years after the rapper allegedly tried to shoot two men at a Baton Rouge nightclub. In the Baton Rouge case, Miller is accused of trying to shoot the owner of Club Raggs and a bouncer. Jury selection will resume today. No jurors were picked Tuesday. Three dozen of the nearly 50 potential jurors being questioned said they have heard of Corey Miller. The trial is expected to last until Friday, state District Judge Tony Marabella said. (2TheAdvocate)
A majority of the potential jurors were familiar with the rapper which caused an extended jury-selection process.
Judge Tony Marabella of the 19th Judicial District greeted about 45 prospective jurors. And then Marabella asked whether anyone knew the defendant, Corey Miller. "Mr. Miller is a rap artist, or a hip-hop artist, if the terminology is correct," Marabella said. "He sometimes goes by C-Miller. He sometimes goes by C-Murder." In the crowded courtroom, 37 people raised their hands, setting in motion an extended jury-selection process that is scheduled to resume Wednesday. (The Times-Picayune)
The attempted murder lawsuit was initially placed on hold for a later date.

Irv Gotti Likes It When Nas Is 'Arrogant'

Irv Gotti had grand plans for Nas several years ago when he announced his fellow Queens native would be signing to Murder Inc. Records. Well, we all know Nas never came to the Inc., but I.G. says he’s remained tight friends with Esco and the two may even work together again. Gotti is still a fan of Nas’ music, but he prefers it when he keeps his raps simple.

“I like Nas,” Gotti said. “First of all, Nas is my brother — another one of my brothers. But I personally like Nas when he’s ignorant. Whenever Nas gets political or he starts thinking or he wants to change the world, it’s good, but I personally like it more when Nas is on his QB, ignorant n—a sh–. When he’s on [a] ‘Made You Look’ [vibe]. When he’s on his arrogant sh–. When Nas dumbs himself down, he’s nicer to me. I tell him that sh– all the time. … When he’s on some n—a sh–, he’s nicer.”

However, Irv is the last one to try and give the mic legend advice on his marital woes.

“I was with him yesterday,” Gotti explained. “Me and Nas is family … No, I didn’t even talk to him [about Kelis]. I gotta steer clear of that. That’s that man’s personal feelings. I’m there for him. If he wanna go out, party, chill — I’m a phone call away.”

Swizz Beatz Seeks Gag Order Over Alicia Keys Affair

Producer Swizz Beatz (Kasseem Dean) has requested a court-approved gag order in the divorce proceedings with R&B singer Mashonda.

Upon announcement of the divorce last year, gossip columns and sites began speculating the reason for the split was due to Swizz Beatz' alleged affair with R&B superstar Alicia Keys.

After vehemently denying the claims for months, Swizz confirmed the relationship earlier this month.
Mashonda attorney Bernard Clair criticized the request, lambasting the veteran producer for child neglect and his verse on Drake's "Best I Ever Had Remix," which the high-powered divorce lawyer claimed was a classless attempt of brag about the affair that allegedly ended his marriage.

Speaking to the New York Post, Clair stated the issues with the divorce and child support were "flying under the radar until Mr. Dean and Alicia Keys went public about their long-term affair and he released a song implying that he likes it when Alicia serves him breakfast naked. Now that Mr. Dean's questionable conduct is being scrutinized, he suddenly wants a gag order and the media to be locked out?"
The former couple divorced last April after four years of marriage.

Their one child, Kasseem, Jr., was born in January 2007.
At press time, Manhattan Superior Court Justice Deborah Kaplan has not made a ruling on Swizz Beatz's gag order request.

Jay-Z Is Now Independent

With rumors swirling around Jay’s Def Jam contract buyout, Hov exclusively spoke to Rap Radar to confirm the speculation.

“I can honestly say, working with Doug Morris and LA Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience and I respect them immensely. I’ve been in the family for almost my entire career.

Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique “negotiations” ever. Doug won the toss but, we both won in the end..

I thank him for allowing me to be a completely independent artist. Not every artist can say they own or are given the opportunity to own all of their music.”

YN: What is this coin toss about?

Hov: That takes a phone conversation, I’ll save it for our interview… classic.

Numbers Don't Lie, I Guess No One Really Missed Cam'ron

Crime Pays, Killa Cam’s first release in three years, debuted on the charts this week at the no. 3 slot, selling less than his label Asylum expected.

Last week HitsDailyDouble projected the disc would sell between 40-45K but label reps told XXLMag.com that the Dipset Don was on track to push way more units. Well according to the Nielsen SoundScan report released today, Cam managed to beat frenemy Jim Jones by only 100 units, officially selling about 43,000 copies of his album.

Sitting pretty at the no. 9 position is Rick Ross. The Miami Boss’ third CD, Deeper Than Rap continues to keep fans in the stores as he sold an additional 26, 500 units this week. After a month on the racks, Ross has cleared 270,500 copies from the shelves.

Cam’s Asylum labelmate Paul Wall also debuted on the Billboard 200 this week. The Houston rapper’s new album Fast Life sold 21,600 units in its first week. Also entering the charts this week is Atlanta favorite Gucci Mane. The latest XXL coverboy rang up 14,700 copies of his independent release Murder Was The Case on former label Big Cat Records.

Rounding out the top 40 is Yonkers rep Jadakiss. The Def Jam MC landed at the no. 34 spot this week- selling 12, 500 of his third solo album The Last Kiss. After six weeks Jada has moved a total of 258, 700 discs. Right below Kiss is Carol City rapper Flo Rida. The iTunes best seller moved up 10 spots this week to no. 36. In his 7th week Rida sold 11, 700 copies of his sophomore LP R.O.O.T.S., making his overall tally 161,100.

With this week being the biggest Super Tuesday of ’09 for hip-hop, expect to see new releases by Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Redman and Method Man and DJ Drama to debut high on the charts next Wednesday (May 27)

Raekwon Talks Nas, ‘Verbal Intercourse 2’

As excitement builds over the verified August release of Only Built for Cuban Linx II, Raekwon is giving more details on the anticipated LP’s confirmed tracks.

While the teaser sequel track “Criminology 2” was well-received, fans have continually questioned whether there would be a re-up of the original album’s most lyrical track, “Verbal Intercourse.”

Nas, whose beginning verse is celebrated as one of the best of his illustrious career, has been in talks with Raekwon to bring back his renowned lyricism before the final tracklist is completed.

The Chef confirmed the talks exclusively with AllHipHop.com, and emphasized the importance of continuing the artistic bond he shares with many of his New York contemporaries.

“These are my dudes from back in the day, like Mobb Deep, Nas, Fat Joe, and Big Pun, God bless the dead,” Raekwon told AllHipHop.com. “You never know what’s going to happen. Rae’s still got to move on as a general.”

Rae admitted catching up with Nas has been difficult, especially in lieu of the recent events in the Queensbridge legend’s life.

Nas is finalizing a risky but ambitious LP with Reggae star Damian Marley, and facing the emotional strain of preparing for the birth of his second child while handling a high-profile divorce.

Still, Raekwon remains optimistic that Nas will make good on his promise.

“Nas said he’s gonna be on the album,” the Chef stated. “We’re still working on catching him. But if it’s not 'Verbal Intercourse 2,' we’ll come up with some new chemistry.”
Raekwon’s highly anticipated Only Built for Cuban Linx II is set to drop on August 11 through EMI/Ice Water Records.

The LP features production from The RZA, Dr. Dre, Marley Marl, Erick Sermon, and J Dilla.

R.I.P. To ATL Rapper Dolla

LOS ANGELES -- A Georgia man has been arrested in the murder of up-and-coming rapper "Dolla" at the Beverly Center shopping mall.

The 21-year-old rapper "Dolla," born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot and killed Monday afternoon as he and another rapper, D.J. Shabbazz, were waiting at the valet stand after a shopping trip, according to Burton's publicist Sue Vannasing.

Vannasing said he was shot in the head.

LAPD Sgt. Ronnie Crump confirmed the victim was shot about 3:15 p.m. on the ground floor of the mall. Nearby diners dove for cover when the shots rang out.

Burton arrived at LAX from Atlanta earlier in the day and went to the Beverly Center to do some shopping, Vannasing said. Burton apparently had a dispute with some people, perhaps at the airport, she added.

"They followed him to the mall because they knew he was coming," Vannasing said. Los Angeles police officials could not immediately confirm or deny that account.

Burton was rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he died of his wounds.

Los Angeles police said in a statement Tuesday that 23-year-old Aubrey Louis Berry of Georgia was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday night. His bail was set at $1 million.

Berry was found at the ticket counter at Terminal 1.

"The suspect was detained without incident [and] discovered to be armed," said Los Angeles World Airports spokeswoman Nancy Castles. Police said they recovered a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun from the suspect.

A silver Mercedes, thought to be the suspect's getaway car, was later found in an airport parking lot. Police were investigating whether Berry was trying to board a flight out of Los Angeles.

Burton is best known for his work on the soundtrack for the 2006 dance film "Step Up" and for the two singles released with the singer Akon: "Like This" and "She So Fine."

Burton was an up-and-coming rapper who had recorded several singles. He was in town to work on his first album, slated to be released this summer on Jive Records, Vannasing said.

His first single, released in 2007, was "Who the [Expletive] is that?"

He was born in Chicago in 1988 and moved with his family to the Los Angeles area and then to Atlanta, according to a biography on his MySpace.com page.

The biography said he lived a life full of misfortune, witnessing his father commit suicide at age 5 and turning to crime to support his family at age 10. He began rapping as 12, and formed a group called Da Razkals Cru.

Mark Ronson & Jay-Z To Produce Young Chris Debut

Jay-Z and Mark Ronson will executive produce the first solo album from Young Chris, Now Or Never, according to the Young Gunna in an interview with XXLMag.com

“The distribution is gonna be either through Roc Nation of Interscope,” Chris told XXL. “We’re weighing out our options right now but it’s a good look however it comes out.” The Philly MC expects a deal to be signed “any day now.”

Though an the album won’t be released until the top of the next year, Chris will drop a Mark Ronson-produced buzz single, “Suga Suga,” featuring UK girl group, Sugababes, whom Hov recently inked to Roc Nation.

The relationship between Hov and Chris dates back to the Roc dynasty but Ronson muse Wale was the one to build the relationship between Chris and the British super producer’s production label, Allido Records. “One thing about me and Wale is there’s no egos —we’re like brothers from another,” he said. “Basically, one day, Wale just called me like, “Yo, I’ma holla at Rich [Klienan] and Mark [Ronson] and let them know they need to look at you— not sayin’ that you can’t get a deal but they need to do something with you before somebody else grabs you.’ I went over to Allido and once we figured out I was free — no attachments and basically ready to go — we just been working. Mark’s been giving me records, and me and Wale been touring and throwing records together — just building our relationship just so when the deal gets done, everything is a go.”

The immediate result will be a mixtape from the two, entitled The Odd Couple. “My man went to school — he did the school thing. That’s my man, love him to death. And me, I was in the streets before the rap thing so we just basically called it The Odd Couple. We’re alike but we’re totally different,” he said of the collaboration with Wale.

But first, Chris’s next move will be the feature-heavy mixtape The Network, featuring the likes of Bun B, Wale, J. Cole, and if scheduling works out, Drake as well.

As for his original partners-in-rhyme, State Property, rumors have been abound that a deal is in the works to bring the collective — the entire original squad in fact—to Roc Nation.

“Anything is possible,” said Young Chris, remaining cryptic about the speculation. “I don’t wanna speak too much on that. It shouldn’t be a problem getting back together as long as there’s a proper offer for us.”

Jadakiss Looking To Start "D-Block West"

D-Block is has been widely regarded as an almost exclusively East Coast street-hop entity.

However, now Jadakiss has proclaimed that he wants to sign artists from the other side of the nation.

“I’m trying to start this D-Block West thing over here. I’m looking for everybody. Hit me up,” the rapper told radio host Devi Dev of hardknock.tv. “Send your music, send your demos, send your packages and let’s see what we can do.

"I’m not discriminating – female [or] male,” he said. “Whatever’s going on, we can make it happen. If you hot, you hot.”

The rapper said he was going beyond talk in wooing the West.

“Kiss My Converse” is Jadakiss’ latest mixtape foray and the rapper will rhyme exclusively over West Coast instrumentals.

“The West Coast Kiss,” as he has deemed himself recently dropped The Last Kiss.

Rapper DMX Released From Arizona Prison After Serving Over 90 Days

Yonkers Hip-Hop star DMX is free after serving over 90 days in jail on drug, fraud, and animal cruelty charges, a representative confirmed with AllHipHop.com. The rapper was released from "Tent City," aka the Maricopa County Jail, late yesterday afternoon (May 13).
DMX's conviction and prison sentence was a culmination of a 2008 filled with legal woes.
The rapper’s last arrest resulted in an extradition back to Phoenix after attempting to hide out in producer Scott Storch’s Florida mansion.
Originally, DMX, born Earl Simmons, was to serve only 90 days in jail.
His tenure was extended when he faced additional charges for allegedly assaulting a corrections officer over a food dispute.
During his incarceration, X revealed plans to start a Christian ministry upon his release.
"I'm gonna start a TV show called Pain and Perseverance, it's about how I can reach people that the average person can't reach because I'm grounded," he stated. "I'm going to give my first sermon, in the church. That's going to be incredible for me and hopefully the congregation of that church. I've completed my gospel album. On every one of my albums there's been a gospel song and prayer. Because of my image those songs are never made singles except my sixth album where they did 'Lord Give Me a Sign.'"
DMX was originally supposed to release a double album, one with his Hip-Hop comeback titled Walk With Me Now, the other a gospel album titled You'll Fly with Me Later.
Both projects remain in limbo.
At press time, DMX has not released a statement confirming his plans for the rest of 2009.

Nas And Pete Rock To Reunite Again!

Hip-Hop lovers can rejoice: Nas and producer Pete Rock are working on music again.
Together Nas and Pete Rock orchestrated some of the most meaningful, prolific music to in the 90's when they collaborated on Nas' seminal album Illmatic, which was released 15 years ago this year.
"The World Is Yours" was an inspirational beacon to Hip-Hop fans during the period. Pete explained how things came to fruition. "I got a call from [Nas] one day. I was very excited when I saw that he called. I called him back and we conversed a bit, through the text, got him on the phone and we kicked it," Pete Rock told AllHipHop.com. "I sent music to him. And I'll just continue to send him music, you know? Whatever he likes, he'll probably put to the side. But, I'm real excited about working with him."
The pair haven’t work together since Illmatic, even though they had great success as a team.
To this day, Pete Rock says he doesn't know why he and Nas didn't continue to collaborate in any fashion since the popularity of Illmatic.
He's not necessarily looking for answers either.
"I think it was a lot of situations [that caused the break off], but you know, but right now, I don't give a damn. That was the past. You know, I always wanted to get down to the bottom of it, to see what the problem was," Pete said. "Whatever it was, I know it was a lie. I always asked that question like ‘Why isn't he working with me,’” Pete said. "Other than that, I'm just happy that he reached out. Watch out. The beats are coming crazy."
Pete has stayed busy working on the recent Red & Meth Song, "A-Yo" and his own solo material.
The New York-based producer has also relaunched his label Soul Brother Recordings and will be releasing new artists in the future.

Yung Joc Taking Bad Boy to Court

Joc broke down all his gripes regarding his relationship with the owner of Block Entertainment – Mr. Big Block. Joc alleges that due to contractual situations, unpaid royalties and unpaid advances the young business mogul and his legal team is currently in the process of taking legal action against his record label.

The multi-platinum rap star alleges that Block Ent/Bad Boy hasn’t offered any label support since 2007. Yung Joc went on to make shocking claims about the inner dealings of Block Ent.
According to Joc, he’s paid for his own public relations, claims to not be receiving his advance money for his projects, alleges that Block has used advances for other projects, and even makes shocking claims regarding his former management company 9196.

Joc quickly broke down his reason[s] for splitting with his former mgmt company, which happened to be owned by Big Block, but is fronted by CEO Rico Brooks. Yung Joc breaks down the situation by saying that it was nothing more then a 360 deal , that resulted in Block getting a piece of everything Joc. Wait, can’t a record label that also owns a mgmt company be considered a conflict of interest? Many people didn’t know, but Shakir Stewart and Ted Lucas took over mgmt of Joc’s career shortly after Joc ended his relationship with 9196. But since Shake’s suicide late last year, Yung Joc and two mgmt companies have taken over mgmt duties.

And what’s this I’m hearing about Big Block charging other record companies 25k to clear Joc for a record? I guess that explains why we haven’t seen Mr. Robinson in any video’s recently. Joc shared tells of Block’s ‘Suge Knight -esque” actions that’s prevented Joc from being cleared to do other music projects outside of Bad Boy and Block ENT.

But, though Jasiel Robinson is upset with his current business situation with Block, the popular artist wasn’t in the mood to throw grease. I have been hearing all kinds of rumors surrounding BlockENT and when I inquired about the street whispers, Joc made it clear that he was only interested in addressing his direct gripes with the company.

Joc is currently being legally represented by Londell Mcmillian and Nova Perry.
It should be noted that Joc’s new venture with Hot Stylz is a profitable one. Their smash single “Lookin Boy” feat Joc sold over a million ringtones and Joc’s currently hard at work on his newest project “Mr Robinson’s Neighborhood”. Joc has re-teamed up with producer Nitti.

Was Alphamega A Government Informant?

Court records show that Zellars began working with law enforcement officials after he was sentenced in September 1995 to 110 months in a federal gun case (Zellars, who had a prior felony robbery conviction, was collared for selling weapons to an undercover federal agent). Zellars “agreed to cooperate with authorities and was debriefed” about the criminal activity of several individuals. “In particular he was debriefed concerning the drug trafficking activities of a Mr. Ali Baaqar,” according to a government court filing, a copy of which you’ll find below. During his cooperation against Baaqar, Zellars met with a DEA agent and a federal prosecutor, and subsequently testified at trial. “Ali Baaqar was convicted of conspiracy to distribute heroin based upon the trial testimony of [Zellars] and others.” In return for his snitching, Zellars had 18 months shaved off his prison term when he was resentenced in July 1997 by Judge J. Lloyd Banks Been Off Interscope Since 2007

As talk of Lloyd Banks leaving Interscope records increases, the G-Unit rapper has revealed his recent collaborations outside of his rap group, including new records with Jadakiss, Fabolous, Juelz Santana.

Despite the tight-knit association with his G-Unit camp, Banks has expressed his recent motivation to work with other artists.

"I got a track called 'My Way or Nothing' with Uncle Murda," Banks said in an interview regarding his new mixtape. "I'm a fan of a lot of these emcees. A lot of people got egos...If you like somebody's record you won't say it because of your ego? I reached out to Nipsey Hussle too...I'm just trying to get in there and mix magic and work with a lot of these artists I've appreciated over the years. I got a record in the works now with me, Juelz, Fabolous and Jadakiss called 'Welcome to New York.' I'm waiting to get the final touches on that. I'm a grown man now. Everybody gotta get their grown man on and get in to the studio and make magic."

Banks also cleared up the Interscope rumor -- he hasn't been signed to the label since 2007, when he fulfilled his contractual requirements. He hasn't decided what label his next album will be on, but 50 Cent will definitely have it under his umbrella. He'll continue to drop mixtapes in the meantime -- it's like practice.

Man Who Totaled Pimp C's Bentley Gets 70 Years

The man responsible for a 2006 car wreck involving late Texas rapper Pimp C has been sentenced to a 70-year prison sentence.

The Beaumont Enterprise reports that Shawn Donnell Jones was sentenced last week for his role in the incident.

According to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office, Jones fired a round from an SKS assault rifle at two men who left the scene of a music video being filmed on the west side of Port Arthur.

After the round shattered the car’s rear windshield, a chase ensued as Jones fired at the two men several times.

At least six rounds from the weapon struck the car.

Soon after, the vehicle struck Pimp C’s car at an intersection, ending Jones’ assault. Authorities later captured Jones and his accomplice, Joseph Paul Smith.

During the chase, Smith drove the car while Jones fired shots. The court hearing marks the latest in a string of encounters between Jones and police.

The 38-year-old’s previous episodes include 19 previous criminal convictions in addition to 90 incidents of misconduct while incarcerated.

Jones’ sentencing is a step forward, in the eyes of prosecutor Pat Knauth.

"We were most gratified by the jury verdict against a chronic offender who has been a terror in the city of Port Arthur for years, he told the Enterprise.

“Who knows who else might have been injured or killed by his actions if the police hadn't been right on top of this situation?"

Factors in the decision against Jones included video footage of the chase as well as Jones' fingerprints on a partially empty box of bullets and a clip from the assault rifle.

Both items had been thrown from the car during the chase. To be considered for parole, Jones must serve at least 30 years of his prison sentence.

Another aggravated assault charge involving Jones is pending. A trial for that case will take place tomorrow (May 4).

“Freeway” Rick Ross Coming Home

Notorious Los Angeles drug kingpin Rick Ross is scheduled to be released from prison on Monday. His May 4 release comes after he was served with a life sentence resulting from a C.I.A. cocaine smuggling scandal. Ross was nicknamed “Freeway” because he owned several properties along Los Angeles’ Harbor Freeway, where he ran a crack-cocaine distribution ring that was said to have earned $2.3 million a day. In an interview with PBS, Ross claimed he had thousands of employees and an operation that stretched across the U.S. He said he ran cocaine sales in St. Louis, New Orleans, Cincinnati, Baltimore and Seattle.

In 1996 Ross was “set-up” by his long time dealer, Oscar Danilo Blandon, who orchestrated a sting with the C.I.A in an undercover operation. The set-up led to the kingpin’s apprehension and life sentence after his attempt to purchase 1000 kilos of cocaine.

In recent years a Florida rapper, who is rumored to be a former jail guard, has made a significant contribution to Billboard’s Top 200 via his rap alias “Freeway Rick Ross.” The rapper insists he did not base his music career and persona off the true Rick Ross.

Ross, however, feels differently, “After seeing all the stuff that has been going on with the Correctional Officer (William Roberts) that stole my name, [it] makes me think back to a year and a half ago when we spoke,” Freeway Ricky Ross explained to AllHipHop.com in a previous interview. “I tried to talk to him like a big brother and let him know to be you, and that he couldn’t be me.”

Jay-Z: Not Black Music, Just Good Music

Last night I performed at the University of Arizona, I had a ball!! Through all the excitement and joking around (as well as the technical difficulties) I missed out on the opportunity to say something important..

On the show as well were Third Eye Blind and Kelly Clarkson.. I thought that to be the oddest pairing EVER but, soon realized, it’s what I’ve always professed..There is NO such thing as BLACK music or WHITE music only GOOD or BAD music..It’s stupid cool to like things that are not like you, and that goes for outside of music.. If you’re an African American you can have a jewish friend. Wait, does Lyor having some Israeli mixed with his jewish count? (Sure they are paranoid but, so are black people after they’ve smoked weed, haaaaa, and plus the JEW fro and the BLUEprint fro are the SAME thing.)

I think concerts like this should happen more often. ( Outside of the one or 2 festivals a year or “Zootopia”) I’m putting that into the universe..next up Taylor Swift and Uncle Murda!!

Sorry I don’t “Tweet” (do I?) so this will have to do..

Love.
